YouTube video lands creator in legal trouble, police assures strict action
A YouTuber in Telangana is facing legal action for posting a video featuring a recipe for "traditional peacock curry," according to police. The peacock, being India's national bird, is protected by law, and it is illegal to own or capture them. Violations of these laws result in severe penalties.
Kodam Pranay Kumar, a resident of Tangallapalli in the Siricilla district, is now the subject of a manhunt for allegedly promoting the illegal killing of peacocks. "A case has been registered under the relevant laws, and strictest action will be taken against him and anyone involved in such activities," stated Akhil Mahajan, SP of Rajanna Siricilla district, on X. He further noted that Kumar will also be sent to remand.
Animal rights activists have called for stringent measures against Kumar despite the video being removed. In previous videos, Kumar has featured recipes like wild boar curry.
The controversy erupted after the video, which showed Kumar preparing and consuming peacock curry, went viral on social media, leading to significant backlash and accusations of promoting illegal wildlife consumption. The video has since been removed from Kumar's YouTube channel.
