Two U.S. Nationals Arrested in Bihar for Attempting to Enter Nepal Illegally
Two American citizens from California, including a woman, were apprehended in Bihar’s Madhubani district while allegedly attempting to cross into Nepal without valid travel documents. The arrests took place near the Betaunha border outpost under Jainagar Police Station, where personnel from the 48th battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) intercepted the couple on Saturday afternoon. Two local residents who reportedly provided logistical support to the Americans during their stay in the Jainagar area were also detained.
According to Jainagar Deputy SP Ankur Kumar, the American woman, originally from Nepal, had married the male U.S. national and later acquired American citizenship. The couple, along with the two locals who aided them, was jointly interrogated by the police, SSB, and officials from other agencies. “They were attempting to cross over without proper documentation, which prompted their detention and the registration of a case,” Deputy SP Kumar told PTI.
The incident has prompted a deeper investigation to uncover any additional details related to the couple’s activities in the region and their intent to cross into Nepal. The locals, who provided logistical assistance, are also being questioned to determine the extent of their involvement.
