In a statement on the recent U.S. presidential election, Russia’s Foreign Ministry attributed Donald Trump’s return to the White House to American dissatisfaction with the Biden administration and the Democratic Party’s agenda, which, according to Russia, was hastily represented by Vice President Kamala Harris. The ministry noted that, despite substantial media and administrative support for the Democrats, Trump’s campaign focused on issues like the economy and illegal immigration, which resonated strongly with voters.
Russia also highlighted perceived weaknesses in the U.S. electoral system, describing it as "outdated, archaic, and incompatible with modern standards of direct, fair, and transparent elections," suggesting that these flaws hindered the ruling party’s ability to prevent Trump’s win.
The statement further addressed the polarization within the U.S., where the electorate appears divided along lines of Democratic and Republican values, as well as progressive and traditional ideals. Russia suggested that Trump’s return could intensify these divisions.
Regarding U.S.-Russia relations, the Foreign Ministry indicated that they hold no illusions about the President-elect or the Republican-controlled Congress, noting that the anti-Russia stance is entrenched within the U.S. political elite, irrespective of which party is in power.
Russian Priorities Moving Forward
Russia emphasized that it would engage with the new administration based on its national interests, particularly regarding the special military operation. The statement reiterated that Russia’s conditions for cooperation remain unchanged, with Washington fully aware of Russia's stance on key international issues.
