Passenger Bus Catches Fire in Kawardha; 60 Lives Saved in Narrow Escape
A major accident was averted on Sunday evening in Kawardha when a passenger bus traveling from Mungeli to Lucknow caught fire due to an apparent short circuit. Thankfully, all 60 passengers, including women and children, were safely evacuated in time, preventing any loss of life.
The Incident
The incident occurred near the Aagarpani Ghat in Kawardha. The driver and conductor noticed smoke emanating from the bus’s engine, prompting immediate action. They stopped the vehicle at the roadside and ensured all passengers disembarked quickly. Moments later, the flames engulfed the bus, reducing it to ashes.
Passengers and Damage
The bus was carrying 60 passengers, many of whom lost their belongings in the fire. While some passengers managed to save a few possessions, others saw their entire luggage destroyed. Despite this, the swift response by the driver and conductor ensured that no one was harmed. The bus had departed from Mungeli earlier that day with its passengers bound for Lucknow. Upon reaching Aagarpani Ghat, the driver suspected an issue with the engine. Acting promptly, he, along with the conductor, led the evacuation effort, saving every passenger onboard.
Police Statement and Investigation
Vyas Narayan Churendra, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kukdur Police Station, confirmed the fire was caused by a suspected short circuit. "The bus was carrying 60 passengers. All were safely evacuated. Some passengers lost their belongings, but the fire has been brought under control," Churendra stated.
The bus company promptly arranged another vehicle to transport the passengers to their destinations. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident. Although a short circuit appears to be the likely cause, a detailed probe is underway to confirm the exact reasons behind the fire.
The incident underscores the importance of quick thinking and prompt action in averting potential tragedies. The driver and conductor's timely response not only saved lives but also prevented a catastrophe. While the loss of property is regrettable, the fact that no lives were lost is a testament to their courage and presence of mind.
