In a disturbing incident in Basti district, a Junior Engineer (JE) from the electricity department, identified as Ravindra Kumar, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman after promising to waive her electricity bill. A video related to the incident has surfaced on social media, sparking outrage.

Allegations and Police Investigation

According to the woman’s complaint filed with the Superintendent of Police (SP), the incident occurred when she approached the JE to correct her high electricity bill in April. She claims that Ravindra Kumar offered to check her meter at home and, under the pretense of a house visit, allegedly assaulted her. The woman stated that Kumar coerced her into silence by recording the assault and threatening to make the video public if she reported the incident.

The police have registered a case based on her complaint and are investigating the matter. CO Sadar Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari confirmed the registration of a case and assured that a thorough investigation is underway. The electricity department has also initiated an internal inquiry, pledging cooperation with the authorities.

The incident underscores the need for vigilance against abuse of power and highlights the importance of protecting victims’ rights and ensuring justice.
