Husband’s Neglect and Family Harassment: Woman in Guna Ends Life After Recording Heart-Wrenching Video
In a tragic incident in Guna's Madhusudangarh area, a 25-year-old woman, Malti Ahirwar, ended her life on Saturday after recording a video detailing the neglect and harassment she faced from her husband, in-laws, and villagers. In her video, Malti expressed her anguish, stating, “My husband doesn’t come to take me home, doesn’t respect me, and people look at me with shameful eyes. My in-laws also trouble me.”
Malti, originally from Gunjari village, married Vinod, son of Jagveer Singh from Naseerpur, five years ago. However, she had been living with her parents for the last four years, separated from her husband. In her final video, she accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to dowry-related harassment and neglect.
At the time of her death, her father, Jamnalal, was away for work, and her mother was in the fields. Upon returning, her mother discovered Malti hanging and immediately alerted the police, who arrived on the scene and rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Malti’s father explained that since the wedding, Vinod had not taken her back to her marital home. Despite repeated attempts by the family, including legal interventions and support from the local village council, Vinod remained indifferent and never came to bring her back.
In her video, Malti spoke about the shame and disrespect she felt, saying, “A woman who her husband doesn’t respect is disrespected by everyone. People look at me with shameful eyes, and society paints such a woman as characterless, pushing her toward suicide. Today, I am taking my own life, and the reason is my husband.”
Malti’s message also accused her in-laws of mistreating her, saying, “If my husband had accepted me, there would have been respect for me among my in-laws and society. But my husband harassed me for dowry and showed no respect. My in-laws also behaved badly.”
She further recounted various grievances, stating, “My husband ruined my life by marrying me. He was abusive and disrespectful. My father-in-law used to insult me and intrude in the house while I was cooking, and my mother-in-law even locked the house against me. They demanded a gold chain and other items as dowry, and my husband kept asking for a vehicle.”
Police have initiated an investigation into the case. Station House Officer Sandeep Yadav stated that Malti had been living separately from her husband for nearly four years, with a court case pending for her maintenance. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation will be led by the SDOP.
