Gaurghat Waterfall Tragedy Update: Body of Rahul Singh Found Five Days Later, Death Linked to Reel Stunt

Gaurghat Waterfall Tragedy

The tragic incident at Gaurghat Waterfall in Korea has raised concerns among local authorities, as the district administration urges people to avoid taking dangerous stunts for social media reels near waterfalls.

On January 15, Rahul Singh, a young man, visited the Gaurghat waterfall for a picnic. While at the site, he attempted to perform a stunt by jumping into the waterfall to create a reel.

Tragically, he drowned after jumping from a height of around 50 feet into deep water. After being missing for five days, his body was recovered on January 19.

According to Pramod Kumar Pandey, Station Incharge of the Charcha Police Station, eyewitnesses reported that Rahul Singh was filming a video reel when he jumped into the deep water. He attempted to capture the jump on camera but failed to resurface.

His disappearance prompted a rescue operation on the night of January 15, though it was suspended due to darkness. The search resumed the next day, with teams from both the local area and Ambikapur diving to locate him. Despite the continued efforts, it wasn’t until January 19 at 1:00 PM that the joint team succeeded in recovering Rahul’s body.

"We started the search on the night of January 15, but had to halt it due to darkness. The next day, a team of divers conducted a search, but we faced difficulty finding him. Finally, on January 19, we located the body," said Pandey.

Following the tragic incident, there have been growing calls from locals for the implementation of safety measures at Gaurghat Waterfall. Residents have pointed out the lack of warning signs or safety personnel at the site, despite the frequent occurrence of such accidents. Many feel that the administration needs to take stronger actions to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

"There are no warning boards or safety guards at the picnic spot. Every year, there are several accidents here, but the authorities have not taken any concrete steps," said a local resident from Korea. After the body was recovered, it was handed over to the police for postmortem procedures.

Following the completion of the postmortem, Rahul Singh's body was returned to his family. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with performing dangerous stunts for social media content, and highlights the urgent need for safety measures at popular tourist spots like Gaurghat.
