Elephants Roaming Residential Areas of Chirimiri, DFO Takes Charge
An alert has been issued in Manendragarh-Chirimiri-Bharatpur district due to the movement of wild elephants through residential areas. Sirens are being sounded, and announcements are being made to inform and warn residents. In Chirimiri’s municipal area, the presence of tusker elephants has created an atmosphere of fear among locals. Forest department officials, along with other staff, are patrolling the area at night to monitor the situation.
Sleepless Nights for Locals Due to Elephant Sightings
Last night, tusker elephants entered the Korea Colliery area near Pokhri Dafai’s Chhath ghat in Chirimiri, alerting the residents. Crowds quickly gathered outside to witness the elephants, leading to a sleepless night for many as they anxiously monitored the situation. In response, the forest department has intensified vigilance, with police support joining the efforts.
The elephants moved from Korea Colliery’s Chhath ghat to the Palathajam road and further toward the Siddh Baba hill area. Later, they returned to residential zones, reaching the Gelhapani area in Chirimiri, sparking renewed concerns among residents. The forest department has urged people to remain indoors, and announcements have been made across the region regarding the elephants’ movement.
DFO Leads Monitoring Efforts
The District Forest Officer (DFO) has taken charge of the operation, personally overseeing the monitoring of the elephants. The forest team is closely tracking the elephants’ locations, with sirens sounding to alert residents and discourage them from venturing into forested areas to collect forest produce. The department is making every effort to ensure the safety of both the local population and the wandering elephants.
