EasyJet Flight Diverted After Teen Attempts to Open Emergency Door Mid-Air


An EasyJet flight from Turkey to London’s Gatwick Airport turned into a terrifying ordeal when a 16-year-old girl’s unruly behavior escalated, forcing an emergency landing in Bari, Italy. Passengers described the incident as a "flight from hell" that left many distressed and disrupted their travel plans.
Mid-Air Chaos
The trouble began when the teenage passenger reportedly became agitated over a 10-year-old girl coughing near her. Eyewitnesses claim the teen confronted the child, shouting aggressively and following her to the restroom. Attempts by the younger girl’s mother to intervene only worsened the situation, prompting the flight crew to separate the parties.
According to Nadine, a passenger traveling with her daughter, the teenager began shouting abuse at crew members and stormed to the back of the plane. In a shocking escalation, she allegedly attempted to open the emergency door mid-flight, breaking its handle. “She threatened to stab a crew member and hurled her shoes at passengers,” Nadine recounted. “The crew managed to restrain her, but the chaos left everyone panicked.”
Emergency Landing
The altercation took a dangerous turn when the teenager collided with a passenger exiting the restroom, sending both crashing into the cockpit door, which reportedly flew open upon impact. Alarmed by the situation, the pilots made the decision to divert the flight to Bari, where the teenager was taken into custody by Italian authorities.
Passenger Discontent
Following the unscheduled landing, passengers were provided accommodations for the night, but many expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions. “The hotel was appalling—mold in the bathrooms, doors that wouldn’t lock, and piles of rubbish outside,” Nadine shared.
Passengers also criticized EasyJet’s handling of the situation. “They didn’t care about us during the incident or afterward. There has been no compensation,” Nadine alleged.
Airline’s Response
In a statement, EasyJet assured passengers that safety remained the airline’s top priority. “While this incident was beyond our control, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. We ensured accommodations and meals were provided and will reimburse expenses incurred,” the airline said.
Despite the assurances, the ordeal left passengers shaken, with many demanding more accountability and better crisis management from the airline.
The teenager’s motives remain unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigation. For the passengers, however, the experience marked an unsettling and unforgettable end to their holiday season.
