BSNL to roll out 5G services, likely by Makar Sankranti next year
BSNL is preparing to roll out its 5G services by Makar Sankranti 2025, according to a media report. Currently, the company is focusing on upgrading basic infrastructure to support the new network.
Following in the footsteps of Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will soon launch its 4G and 5G services. The official confirmation of the rollout has come from Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who indicated that BSNL’s 5G network will likely be operational by 2025.
BSNL recently completed successful testing of its 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and core network on the 3.6 GHz and 700 MHz frequency bands, which will support its upcoming 5G services in India.
When Will BSNL’s 5G Service Begin?
In a press conference, BSNL’s Principal General Manager for Andhra Pradesh, L. Srinu, announced that the company is gearing up to launch 5G services by Sankranti 2025. BSNL is currently working on essential upgrades, such as tower and equipment enhancements, to expedite the rollout.
BSNL’s Mission 2025
BSNL aims to deploy 100,000 sites by mid-2025, with 39,000 sites already installed. It will be the first telecom operator in India to implement both indigenous 4G and 5G networks. Presently, BSNL’s 5G services are undergoing testing.
Importance of the 700 MHz Premium Band
Alongside Reliance Jio, BSNL holds access to the premium 700 MHz band, offering superior coverage. Unlike Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea opted not to adopt this costly band, which is advantageous for its wide coverage capabilities.
